Managing the AJ Group: 24 years of growth in Al Ain
Focal Point is the corporate office of the AJ Group. Launched as a nursery in 1989 in the heart of Al Ain, the AJ Group now has 5 schools, nearly 4000 students and employs more than 350 staff delivering both British System curricula (affiliated to Cambridge International Exams) and Indian System (affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education, India).
Focal Point is committed to quality and continual staff development and in recent years the results of this have been clear. Their flagship school, Al Ain Juniors, was awarded the coveted A band by the Abu Dhabi Education Council inspection team at the end of 2012. For the last three years, Al Ain Juniors has also produced world and national best scores in the Cambridge International GCSE and A-Level exams.
Giving back to the Community
The AJ Group has always believed in giving back to the community and making a difference. The Hope Centre for Children with Special Needs is a project that was very close to the hearts of the founders and served the Al Ain community for 12 years. Its objective of supporting and uplifting children with learning and physical disabilities and helping them join the mainstream was a great success with a significant number of children crossing over and joining regular schools. The Hope Centre was a non-profit organization supported and funded totally by the AJ Group. Sadly the AJ group had to take the decision to close the Hope Centre in 2013 due to changes in government regulations regarding seeking external financial support and the resulting difficulties in maintaining an appropriate standard of care.
Through its schools and students and in coordination of the National Red Crescent of UAE, the AJ Group has constantly supported and helped communities across the world in times of need. Large amounts of financial and material aid have been sent to various areas hit by catastrophes like the earthquake in Pakistan, the tsunami in Indonesia, violence in Gujrat etc. Initiatives like ‘A Mile for a Smile’ helped raise funds for buying blankets and clothes for children in war torn Afghanistan.
Locally the group regularly organizes various community events like science exhibitions, art shows and student organized programs which are usually attended by audiences numbering in thousands.
